Wanton Impunity and Exclusion : A report based on human rights violations amid COVID-19 in Kenya (April - August 2020)

The main objective of the monitoring initiative was to: expose and provide an alternative narrative (besides that of the State and its institutions) and intervene on the impacts of their responses and those of COVID19 to the human rights and fundamental freedoms of the identified vulnerable populations and the general public in the country. Our monitoring was based on the national and international human rights obligations of the government and other actors as enshrined in the Constitution of Kenya and other international legal instruments. The comprehensive statement issued by the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights (ACPHR, or the Banjul Charter) on a human rights-centred approach to the COVID-19 and those by the different UN mechanisms remain instrumental.
