This report presents findings from a study commissioned by the Kenya Human Rights Commission (KHRC) in February 2024 on Revenue Sharing Mechanisms and Royalty Management in the Mining Sector in Kenya, a case of Kwale County. The findings were drawn from a review of policy documents and discussions with key stakeholders in the mining sector and complemented by in-depth key informant interviews (KIIs) and focus group discussions (FGDs). The findings underscore the mining sector’s potential for domestic resource mobilisation and economic and social development through effective mining revenue management and royalty sharing and highlight the opportunities for improvement and benchmarking against international best practices.
