The Kenya Human Rights Commission (KHRC) in November 2006 carried out an informal investigation into labour issues in the tea sector in Kericho. This informal study placed emphasis on large scale tea estates – James Finlays and Unilever Tea Kenya – which are primarily foreign owned. The team of KHRC staff held group discussions with 8 workers in the tea estates. During the group discussions, the workers spelt out a range of violations that they experienced in their places of work.
