Regardless of your economic status, we all deserve protection from harm.
But Bamburi Cement has hired G4S guards and GSU officers who attack Kwale locals when they fetch cooking firewood from disputed land, leading to three deaths, five injuries, and many rape cases.
In the past, we have joined to have multinational companies like Bamburi Cement and G4S pay for their crimes, and today, we can do the same.
Most of us have known firewood as the only source of heat, which should not be the reason for our deaths. The attacks from G4S guards and GSU officers are designed to stop us from benefitting from our land.
Today, Bamburi Cement, G4S and GSU can choose to stop these killings, rapes, and injuries, admit fault, and let abusers face jail time.
In the long run, we want a community where we can live without fear of getting killed, raped, or injured.
